How to Disable, Pause and Restart your Windows 10 Updates

 Windows 10 has several features regarding software updates. Indeed, updating the software is always good for the system, but it consumes the device’s storage and internet data. In most cases, updating software is considered a good thing, but when the hardware is not that strong, things can move in the opposite direction. People who have been using Windows computers for a long time don’t download and install the updates instantly. They instead prefer to wait or postpone the system update for one or two weeks to make sure there aren’t any bugs or problems available.

Indeed, you can’t stop the latest Update from downloading, but you can pause them. Furthermore, you can either disable the updates if you have no plans for updating your system yet. If you wish to go with your current Windows version, not ready to make any changes with the system, so here’s how you can pause, disable or restart time on your Windows 10 computer.

Pause the Updates

• Open the Start menu.
• Open Settings.
• Move into the Update & Security section.
• Tap the Windows Update option.
• On the following tab, you’ll see your pending updates.
• Press Pause updates for 7 days to stop your system from updating.
• During the 7 days, if you open the Windows Update tab again, you’ll see Pause updates for 7 more days to pause the Windows update for 7 more days.
• In case you’re willing to update your system, you can Resume Update before the week is over.
• To pause the Update for a specific date, tap the Advanced button.
• Under the Pause Update tab, choose your date to pause the Update till then. You can pause the Update for a maximum of 35 at a time.

Adjust Restart Times

Windows usually require a restart to install an update, and it’s not certain when the system update will be finished once it gets started. So in this situation, you can choose restart time when you feel more convenient.

• Under the Windows Update, you’ll see an update, if available.
• If no update is appearing, press Check for Updates to ensure.
• You’ll see Restart now button if there’s an update available.
• Press Restart now to install the Update instantly. But if you’re not ready to install right now, press Schedule the Restart.
• Toggle on Schedule a time.
• Select a time to schedule a restart.
• Press Advanced to access additional features regarding schedule updates.
• Under the Advanced tab, you can toggle on Show a notification when the system needs to restart and Restart the system as soon as possible when a restart is necessary for installing the Update.

Disable Updates

If you have no plan to update the system right now, you can disable it. Here’s how you can do it:

• Tap Win+R to launch Run.
• Type Services.misc in Open box,
• Press OK.
• Slide down on the opened tab, and make double click on Windows Update.
• Press the Startup Type drop-down menu, and choose Disabled.
• Hit OK.

So this is how you can stop the system from beginning the Update.
